DFK Hirn Newey provides a happy, family-friendly and comfortable working environment with an emphasis on career progression and professional development.
DFK ANZ member firms believe it is beneficial to promote information sharing and coordination throughout each Practice and between members. Multidisciplinary training and staffing assignments are part of our strategy to develop high calibre, well-rounded professionals while maintaining technical specialisation at management levels.
There are many benefits to working in a mid-sized practice. Team members learn from each other and you don’t get that “home alone in the dark” feeling. You really get to be part of a close working team and not just stand on the sidelines wondering whether they’ll remember your name because you feel like a number.
There is plenty of open communication with the Partners. An open door policy means that Partners are easily accessible to assist in providing guidance and direction. Since the Partners have this hands on approach, they provide relationship building leadership with clients so that team members can understand how to work well with all client types, which is extremely valuable for professional development. Because of this open style, the team can also have input and consultation in the Practice’s decisions making processes on management and training issues.
Each practice has a strong focus on team training and sharing of responsibilities. This translates into being able to develop direct relationships with Clients and to be counted on to manage the workflow for Client files. As well as a greater exposure to different Client types, team members understand and participate in more practice management processes such as lodgements, invoicing and office technology.
In short, you are able to work on a project from beginning to end, get greater exposure and so acquire greater experience.
We are always seeking to interview candidates who are enthusiastic to be part of our close knit teams that offer opportunities for talent to bloom in a supportive non-tall-poppy environment. If you would like to meet with us, please email us a letter on what you may bring to our firm, as well as your resume.

I commenced my cadetship within Paul Haupt’s Team of DFK Hirn Newey in January 2014.
As a cadet, I was constantly supported throughout the whole process of completing my degree as I had the opportunity to work with a diverse array of accountants: partners, managers, senior accountants and other cadets like me. I was also given time off for study, and have had the opportunity to draw on the extensive and diverse firm knowledge by asking staff at manager and partner levels their thoughts on different areas of my study. The cadetship enabled me to perform work that allowed me to put my university studies into practice as well as enhanced my team work ability and facilitated my confidence growth, as I felt comfortable in asking questions and seeking help where needed.
In December 2017 I completed my Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) with Distinction and was fortunate enough to be offered a permanent full time position when I graduated. Since then, I have commenced the Chartered Accountants Program and again, the firm has supported me greatly throughout the past few months and I have no doubt, they will continue to support and guide me whilst I complete this program.
As a recently graduated accountant, I am continually being challenged and learning new skills and being given more responsibility. DFK Hirn Newey has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and has been an incredible place to learn and work. I look forward to continuing working with the partners and staff at DFK Hirn Newey and appreciate their support and guidance whilst I become the best accountant I can be.
DFK Hirn Newey has provided me with the opportunity to work on an interesting client base and on issues beyond the day to day compliance work, all in a family friendly environment. The firm has great systems, which allows me to work from home if required and with the added benefit of flexible working hours I have been able to keep my professional skills up to date while raising a young family.
The training provided is excellent and all the accountants are encouraged to participate in these sessions. The DFK Hirn Newey cadet program ensures that the firm continues to attract younger accountants – this promotes a culture of learning and mentoring.
DFK Hirn Newey has a diverse range of successful clients. I find it challenging and rewarding to be a part of the growth of both DFK Hirn Newey and their clients.
